Whenever you try to change things, there will be people who resist and people who embrace it. What often surprises organisations' leaders is that alongside these groups are people who ignore it. They carry on with their roles as before, often doing a really good job (albeit not necessarily the right job).

If you are experienced in business or organisational management you will no doubt be familiar with the 'change curve' believed by analysts to represent the changing emotions faced by people as they avoid, come to terms with and (hopefully) embrace change.
Stakeholder engagement interventions are designed to support the process in a way that is comfortable, designed for the individual and quicker than would be the case if there were no intervention.
The aim is of course to move from a performing 'as is' team as smoothly and quickly as possible to a team that is again performing in the 'to be' world.
Of course, the earlier you start the better but stakeholder engagement techniques can be applied at any point in the process, sometimes even years after the change was attempted.
